Rosemaling Over Body Print​

As we experience life, we discover the counterpart to the soul, our blood memories that have been passed down from generation to generation. Inherited thoughts, skills, and feelings that one cannot explain. I was called to the traditional Norwegian art of rosemaling by my Valkyrie ancestors that whisper of the past. My brush is guided by my great- great grandmothers who were part of the earth and my figures represent all who come before me.

In this large scale, my body and rosemaling become one, a combination of nature and structure, the rawness of the flesh and the beauty of the painting. It is while working on these canvases that I feel my ancestors' presence and one with the past and present. This body of work is the only way I have found to show my inherited memories of my valkyrie ancestors and explore a tradition that was once so integral to my family.​
